THE ORCHESTRA CAME TO TOWN — May 5th & 6th 2009
Photos and Text by Theodore W. Scull
MSC Cruises‘ 92,400-ton, 2,550-passenger MSC ORCHESTRA arrived in New York on her maiden call the morning of May 5th and stayed until sailing transatlantic on the 6th at 5pm. Because she docked on the south side of Pier 88, a photo was not possible, hence the use of the line‘s doctored press shot.
Next April 30, 2010, sistership MSC Poesia will call at New York en route from Fort Lauderdale to Europe, and on September 22, 2010, MSC Magnifica (under construction in France) will begin a series of fall foliage cruises from New York to New England and Canada, the first time MSC has based a ship here.
